Vinyl House Shutters Or Wood House Shutters
Interior shutters can add elegance to any room. Interior shutters have been a part of interior decor for years. Traditionally, all interior shutters were made of wood. There was no other alternative. Plastic would look too cheap and metal was unacceptable. Today, however, there are different types of interior house shutters and different options other than wood.
One type of interior shutter that is very popular among consumers are vinyl interior shutters. There is still a debate over which type of shutter is better. There are both pros and cons when it comes to both vinyl and wood interior shutters.
Wooden shutters
Wooden house shutters look elegant and are very traditional. They give a look of richness to any house, whether they are used inside or on the outside. Most people really like the look of real wood and wooden shutters are sturdy and durable as well.
Wooden shutters look great, when they are stained or painted. They need to be either stained or painted and sealed. Then, as time wears on, they need to have this done again and again. Maintaining wooden shutters can be very time consuming and costly. They are also very expensive to purchase, especially if you purchase them pre stained.
Wooden shutters are also subjected to rot and termites. Because they are organic, they will eventually rot.
Vinyl shutters
Vinyl shutters are maintenance free. They do not require any painting, staining or sealing - ever. They come in a variety of different colors and styles and are an attractive, maintenance free choice when it comes to shutters for your home.
Unfortunately, vinyl shutters can get dings in them whenever anything hits them, like hail or a rock. Although this can happen to wood, vinyl seems to take more of a bruising because it is a softer substance. Many people do not like vinyl because it is cheap and can look cheap. There are still many people who prefer real wood.
Vinyl shutters are, in effect, plastic. Some of them are made to look like real wood, but cannot fool the observant eye. Although they are less expensive than wood shutters and maintenance free, wood shutters are still preferred by many individuals.
Your choice in house shutters will depend upon your budget, tastes and how much time you are willing to spend maintaining the shutters. If you are looking for a shutter that will not require any maintenance and look attractive on or in your home, you will seek vinyl shutters.
If you do not mind doing maintenance such as staining and painting on the shutters every other year or so and want to spend a bit more money, you will probably like wooden shutters. Either way, shutters make a lovely addition to your home, both inside and out, and come in a variety of different styles, shapes colors and sizes. Whether you choose vinyl or wood, you can be sure to find the house shutters that will suit you and add a touch of glamour to your home.
