Unfortunately, vinyl shutters can get dings in them whenever anything hits them, like hail or a rock. Although this can happen to wood, vinyl seems to take more of a bruising because it is a softer substance. Many people do not like vinyl because it is cheap and can look cheap. There are still many people who prefer real wood.
Vinyl shutters are, in effect, plastic. Some of them are made to look like real wood, but cannot fool the observant eye. Although they are less expensive than wood shutters and maintenance free, wood shutters are still preferred by many individuals.
Your choice in house shutters will depend upon your budget, tastes and how much time you are willing to spend maintaining the shutters. If you are looking for a shutter that will not require any maintenance and look attractive on or in your home, you will seek vinyl shutters.
If you do not mind doing maintenance such as staining and painting on the shutters every other year or so and want to spend a bit more money, you will probably like wooden shutters.
